Following the resignation of long-serving President Nursultan Nazarbaev in March, a presidential election will take place in Kazakhstan on 9 June 2019.
Interim President Qasym-Khomart Toqaev will stand as the candidate for the ruling party. Seven other candidates have been nominated. Opposition organisations have urged a boycott of the election and there have been street protests.
