Elections will take place for the 151-seat national legislature of Madagascar, the large island republic off the east coast of southern Africa, on 27 May.

The ‘deposit’ for standing for election (a sum candidates need to pay to the authorities in order to stand for election) was increased over tenfold early in 2019 and the cost seems to have put off candidates from standing in this set of elections.
